How many of you think you are still stuck up on your past, and it affects you in a lot of things you do every day? I am definitely in the category who still finds it hard to move past what has happened, the experiences I have had in the past, mainly the negative ones tend to find a nice and cozy place in my brain, and in crucial situations where I need to take a decision, they make me think of them which makes it very difficult for me to think straight. Honestly, it is absolutely normal to feel like that, but the torture of getting out of that vicious, negative cycle that makes us overthink like crazy is hard, and I think we need to have each other’s back right!! So, let’s try to make this simple, shall we?!
For starters, lets accept the fact that we do tend to be stuck in the past, and now let’s try to change it. A way you can change it would be by self-talk. Talk with yourself, make a list of things that’ll keep you away from thinking about the past. One of the things I have written in my notes is “it is okay if you feel like this, but it is your choice whether you want to keep feeling like this or do you want to change your mindset and focus on your present which is RIGHT NOW”. Find out on what kind of pampering do you like to do with yourself, get closer to yourself and deep inside you’ll know what it is.
Another way of keeping your mind in the present is thinking about the happy or positive things you are feeling in the moment. Sometimes the best way would be to make others happy around you, and eventually you see yourself becoming a better person, and that not only benefits you, but makes the aura around you positive.
Ask yourself “how is being stuck in the past helping me?” Staying in the past, focusing on something you did, or another did to you? You’ll soon realize the fact that you are so much better than that. What would tomorrow look like if you let go of the past today? It’s amazing to think that it could be different and knowing that you have the ability to make the changes you need to make in your life to allow this freedom. You and only you have the power of telling your mind to do whatever you want, so use it for your good. Use your mind to make your present so great and empowering that you don’t have the time to think about the past. Let your present lead you to the future you have always wanted!
I know this isn’t something that can happen overnight but doing it a few times until you get habitual to it will make behavior changes and that’s how you know you can successfully mastered it. I am definitely using this on myself and it is a process, but I believe it will work out soon. Sometimes things take longer than usual and there’s nothing to worry about because it will eventually happen as long as you believe in the process.
